Intro
This series draws from the Slavic bestiary: demons, spirits, and creatures born from marshlands, forests, and the liminal spaces of Eastern European folklore. While popularized by media like The Witcher games, these beings have centuries-old roots in authentic Polish, Czech, and Russian mythology. This series returns to the original myths, reimagined through contemporary expressionism.
Materials & Process
Two approaches define this series:
**Black cardboard + markers:** Line work only. No fill, no layering—just accumulated marks against matte black. The darkness isn’t background but active presence: marsh fog, forest depth, the void where demons dwell.
**Canvas + acrylic:** Layered surfaces that bury and reveal. Paint accumulates through multiple sessions. What lies beneath shapes what you see. Color stays atmospheric—muddied, earth-bound, occasionally punctured by supernatural clarity.
Both methods honor folklore’s ambiguity. These beings don’t want to be fully seen. The technique respects that resistance.
