HOTHIK expressionist artist Vienna self-portrait with pink purple lighting
My art is made of LONGINGS and occasional revelations.

Im HOHLIK, an expressionist artist based in Vienna. I start new ideas everyday, and then work on multiple different things at a time. Sensory overload. Imagine pure chaos… that’s my creative process. Give me a challenge – I’ll deal with it.

For the most part I’m building my artist brand everyday: either with research, designing graphics for other people, painting, creating installations, taking my tries on fashion design, video production, street-art, photography… Somewhere on the road the psychology study happened. I always believed in being an allrounder.

You work your whole life to get to where you are, but getting lost is a big part of it too. Life is a combination of stability and flow. Beautiful and scary at the same time. I try to mirror this phenomenon the best I can in my work. That’s my method to dig into the fabric of here and now, show something true.

Chaos as Method

So the chaos… Yes, chaos is my method. My process. The technique driving this madness. Me.

It often evokes negative connotations in people’s minds… There is very little belief in this technique – but what can I say – “at first Chaos came to be”, am I right? ;o) So you might as well say I do things by THE BOOK. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Part of my creative process is being inspired by colors and shapes, starting with a couple and then imagining something into it, feeling it out. Checking what’s going to look good next to it as I go. It combines elements of my dive into mythology, psychology, magic/religion, science and popculture.

It can be read as a reflection, a figure, a symbol and for some it’s just a smudge. For me it is an explosion with many meanings, where I try to capture something particular but with no rigidity. Like the game of looking into clouds and imagining what objects could they be, looking at the shadows, trying to imagine a particular silhouette. But with a poke from my side, capturing something intense and particular. It has a weight but it’s not too heavy, too definitive – leaving space for the joy of exploration.

Finding Harmony in the Chaos

As an expressionist artist in Vienna, I juggle various art forms and constantly challenge myself. Being a multifaceted artist means I juggle various art forms as it goes. Whether it’s researching for inspiration, designing graphics for others, painting, creating installations, experimenting with fashion design, producing videos, or delving into street-art and photography, my artistic pursuits know no bounds. It’s a constant journey of self-discovery and expression.

Chaos, often viewed negatively, is my driving force, my technique, and my method. It’s the very foundation from which my creations emerge. Some may question my approach, but I believe that chaos has its own charm and beauty. It’s not about disregarding structure and order; rather, it’s about finding harmony within the chaos. Just like a well-worn book, I meticulously follow the steps, unraveling the chaos to create something extraordinary.

Welcome to my world – – – a world where chaos intertwines with creativity, where imagination knows no boundaries. Step into the realm of organized madness and witness the true essence of my artistic journey. Unleashing chaos, I strive to capture the fabric of the here and now, showcasing the raw and authentic.

Because in the end, chaos can be the catalyst for extraordinary artistry.
